n Position: Managing editor

n When: 1999-2000

n Where: Prescott, Wis.

n Duties: As the Prescott Journal's managing editor, I headed the weekly paper's newsroom, overseeing reporters, photographers, freelancers and pagination. Accomplishments included reshaping and strengthening news content and coverage, redesigning the paper and creating internship programs for a reporter and graphic artist.

n Awards: The Journal was named the Wisconsin Newspaper Association's Weekly Newspaper of the Year for 2000. The Journal chalked up 15 state and two national awards during my tenure. Awards included:

s Sports feature story - 1st place (2000), Wisconsin Newspaper Association; For story about the last year our local high school offered boxing - a half-century before.

s Democracy Award - 2nd place (2000), National Newspaper Association; For set of five editorials about open records/meetings (competition included daily and non-daily newspapers).

s Editorial Pages - 2nd place (2000), Wisconsin Newspaper Association

s Spot news photo - 2nd place (2000), Wisconsin Newspaper Association

s Wells F. Harvey Memorial Award - 3rd place (2000), Wisconsin Newspaper Association; For writing and designing special section “Remembering the Nineties”.

s Staff under my supervision won Wisconsin Newspaper Association awards in 2000 for spot news coverage (1st place), spot news photo (1st place, 3rd place), feature writing (1st place), feature photo (2nd place), general news photo (2nd place) and sports feature writing (3rd place)
